The Milkman

About
Edinburgh Reward: 10% off total bill

Nestled neatly at the bottom of Cockburn Street, in the heart of the magical old town, sits The Milkman, homage to history and good coffee.

Taking its name from owner Mark’s great grandfather, the last milkman to deliver milk by horse and cart in northern Scotland, The Milkman continues to pay respect to Edinburgh’s history both inside and outside. Step up to their door and you’ll be greeted by the very first shop sign from art deco times, preserved and protected today by Scottish World Heritage. Step inside, and you’ll be won over by the considerate décor that allows the original stonewalls to shine. While the coffee house may be small, its clever design creates a charming ambience that, with cosy nooks and window seats to choose from, allows you to stop and take your time over a good cup of coffee, chatting to the shop’s friendly baristas while they work their magic on the espresso machine.

You’re likely to sip on Dear Green’s Goosedubbs blend for your house coffee, or you might like to test the staff knowledge on rotating guest espressos and filter options doing the rounds, including London’s well-known Alchemy, amongst others.

One thing’s clear, when it comes to a unique, well-crafted environment in which to appreciate your coffee, The Milkman is just like a good espresso: small and mighty, and with plenty of punch – especially in a city with no shortage of coffee houses to choose from.
