The Dining Room

About
Edinburgh Reward: Complimentary glass of Prosecco or dram

From the outside looking in, The Dining Room at 28 Queen Street has the make-up of one of New Town’s most attractive venues. Set in a beautifully restored Georgian townhouse with magnificent views across the waters of the Firth of Forth, the restaurant is part of The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, a private members club dedicated to sourcing the very best single-cask, single-malt whiskies available. The restaurant, however, is open to non-members too.

The Dining Room offers two menus, exquisitely crafted by chef James Freeman. The competitively priced menu du jour is available at lunchtimes and from 5pm until 6.30pm, offering an ever-changing selection of locally sourced, well-prepared fine Scottish food. The à la carte menu is a sublime example of fine dining, featuring the best Scottish ingredients prepared with a French influence. The relaxed and friendly service adds to the occasion, as does the extensive and well-balanced wine list with a large range of wines by the glass. As you would expect from a society with the world’s largest selection of single-cask varieties, whisky is offered along with plenty of advice from the knowledgeable staff.

The Dining Room has deservedly been recommended in the Michelin Guide 2011 – with its fantastic food and beautiful location, its success is sure to continue.
